Everything’s starting again. Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Fringe, Supernatural. I can just kiss my studies goodbye.

Just watched Supernatural ep three. So sick you can’t believe it. God’s dead, angels are evil, Satan walks the Earth. It’s like bonk’s wet dream on film.

Anyway, got my first real presentation tomorrow and I’m hardly prepared. I thought I was going to make speech cards today but apparently my good friend procrastination thought otherwise. So I’m just going to wing it tomorrow and hope for the best.

much as i need motivation, i really hate being pushed.

jury is out on the new tv.

it is clearly very clear. but its clear to the extent that every show you’re watching looks like one of those afternoon soap operas. really spoils the mood, especially when you’re watching movies.

mom thinks that starhub is scamming us. she upgraded to the new cable digital box and combined with the new tv, she is convinced that every channel should be of at least high def quality. no amount of explaining from me could convince her otherwise.

on the other hand, gaming on the xbox looks damn good now.

i felt real emo about how i’m reverting to my evil lazy self again just now, so i went to run like crazy. i’m feeling much better now thank you.

the new phone is awesome. the touch screen is like a hundred times more sensitive than my old diamond. haha but the part i like the most is i can put the phone on its side and type messages a la gossip girl. not really faster, but heaps more fun this way. secretly messaging people unnecessarily because i just wanna type on my phone. the batt life is freakin’ awesome too. it’s been on for like two days and the batt bar hasn’t even dropped one notch yet.

in other news, my parents bought a new tv for the living room upstairs. the first time i looked at it, i asked if it was bigger. my mom said it was broader, whatever that means, and i mused to myself that it looked about the same. apparently its LCD, instead of plasma, which is supposed to be a big selling point cue the woah-very-impressed face. but honestly, i haven’t watched anything on it yet, so i’ll put aside my cynism and reserve my judgement for later. who knows, maybe my guitarhero notes will be like twice as big and i can finally shred all the final songs.

which reminds me, my drum set is spoilt. its been like three or four months and its dead. not to mention it came with its fair share of problems, notably the infamous yellow cymbal which had its fair share of frustrated pounding. and now, the blue note in the centre is gone too and all travis barker dreams are for the moment dashed. there’s like no repair centre for the parts in singapore, so i’ll either have to get it shipped to wherever the hell it came from for repairs, or replace it with a new drum set which is conveniently for sale on its own now. of course, bonks might come down one day with his soldering thing and fix it.

i miss my chemical romance. there’s no angstier emo music you can really slit your wrists to.

fucking scariest moment of my life. thought my  hard disk crashed again, but luckily it was a false alarm.

my mom just dropped a bomb on me just now. she sort of let slip her expectations of me in my post-army life. this isn’t your waste your don’t-waste-your-life, or get-a-job schtick. she’s done that all before, and i’ve already heard it all before and that’s a fair enough sort of expectations coming from a parent. the key words of her short speech were more like ‘graduate top 1%’, ‘go overseas and study’, ‘mba at princeton or yale”. needless to say, i had no reply for her. i just think its fucking unfair, to put these sort of unrealistic pressures on me already. she makes it sound so easy, and maybe i would give it to her if she’s accomplished anything like that before, but she hasn’t. if she can even remotely think i can be capable of something like that, she doesn’t know me at all. and that’s why there will always be an invisible gap between us that i know somehow will never be bridged.

in other lighter news, i saw steph song acting in jpod on the universal channel. the gift of cable tv is truly a miracle. the show looks quite interesting though, i’m getting season one to see if its any good.

woah, and my japan day one post took me like almost three hours to complete. and that was only day one. there are eleven other days to go and i don’t dare to imagine how long it’s going to take to finish the rest, but i promise myself i will. except with my wonky internet connection and truly unstable windows, i’m really damn scared everytime i’m almost done with the post.

first most awesome show of the year: REAPER!

to all the suckers crawling along at a snail’s pace on channel 5, haha, i’ve finished it already.

this is probably the best new show that i’ve watched in a long while. it’s light-hearted, heartwarming and definitely funny once you accept the characters for what they are. reaper has more or less the same sort of appeal as chuck, except minus the gadget shop and espionage and insert one tool shop and, dum dum, the devil! and if you can take satan, and the selling of souls and what-nots and turn it into a lighthearted comedy, you know you got some good writing going on.

plus, of course, the girl’s quite pretty. maybe not at first but she grows on you. ooh, and the guy gets the girl too so you can save your breath on all the wistful sighing a la chuck.

yes, watch it. can hardly wait for season 2, feb 19th!

i’ve been watching an unhealthy amount of television lately. it’s supposed to help me pass the time, but now it’s almost an addiction.

aside from gossip girl, i’ve finished watching pushing daisies which is just about the cutest show you can find. and if you’ve got the right sense of humour, it’s hilarious as well. seriously, the show is adorable but i think most people i know won’t like it. and since i only had half the season at home, i rented the whole dvd set only to discover, fuck, that there was only nine episodes so what i imagined was half a season turned out to be about two thirds and i pretty much shelled out a fortune to watch three episodes. anyway, drastically short lifespan aside, i thought it was one of the most original shows i’ve watched in a long long while.

then, i’ve just finished veronica mars. i brought it to camp and no one wanted to watch it so i pretty much forced everyone to watch it along with me. thankfully, i’m the only person bringing stuff to watch into camp so there wasn’t a lot of fight for the television. the first few episodes were honestly nothing much to crow about, and boring enough to leave me wondering how it’s ratings are so high. of course, i have my beloved company mates to tell me what they think about the show. as i told them all, i rented the show so i’m gonna watch it and whether they wanted to sit through it with me was their choice. hey, not like they brought any alternatives right? so i persevere and keep on watching, and slowly, kristin bell becomes cuter. her character veronica mars transforms from an obnoxious social reject into a very endearing loser which is what i guess most people like to see in themselves. and you begin to root for her. not to mention, the cases become increasingly intriguing. i think the whole PG-13 vibe from the first half slowly slips away, which is always a plus. in the end, i finished the whole thing on my own at home and i think i like it even more than gossip girl.

and she’s really cute as a button.

by the way, i’m finding myself a little annoyed when i bring stuff into camp to watch and people start knocking at the shows. i’d like to think of myself as good-natured, but honestly, i feel a little miffed at their remarks sometimes.

for one, i don’t see them bringing anything to watch except josh god bless his him. some people are happy to sit around and wait for everyone to bring stuff for them to watch and if they don’t like the what they’re watching they won’t be shy to express their distaste. i don’t need to hear constant remarks like ‘it’s boring’, or better yet, ‘worst show ever’. you don’t like it, fine by me, as they say one man’s mead is another man’s poison. hey, no one’s forcing you to watch what i’m watching. you got a real problem, bring in something better and i’m only too happy to watch that with you.

two, they don’t even bother to treat whatever i bring in with any sort of respect. for example, i brought in, by request, fight club which was acutally my parents’ original limited edition dvd (they went through a dvd phase) and it was obviously pretty fuckin’ expensive. hey, maybe the box is an actual goddamn box. the number of times i found it lying around and personally had to return it to its box pissed me off, not to mention the countless scratches it sprouted from the time it spent in the office.

three, i brought stuff to watch with you guys together and not so you guys can watch it without me. the best part is of course telling people ‘hey, don’t watch without me ah’ and them watching it anyway. the whole thing just makes you feel unappreciated, maybe a little taken advantage of even. i think maybe josh feels a little of the same even. well, at the very least, i’m not the kind to hold grudges or dislike people for things like this. but you just wish people can at least treat you with a little respect, especially since you’re the one sharing and them the ones receiving on the free.

by the way, umm yeah josh i know you read my blog and this might be a trite unpolished, i really am starting to dislike japanese dramas. i know everyone else loves them and all but i really cannot bring myself to watch anymore. and yeah, i loved hana-kimi along with everyone else but now i find them very grating. the direction is to say the least extremely annoying, especially the completely overused soundbites that seemed novel at first. and the dialogue is a solid 50% shouting and over the top exclamations that bleed my ear drums raw.

the drama, is way too much drama. if there’s a half important match and there’s an important point to be won there will first be a back story of the player batting. then it’s a requirement to show all the faces of his teammates and their thoughts, then the coach and some calefares. afterwards, there must be at least one flashback after which they scroll through the entire team roster again. the player will then have an internal monologue before another flashback and then a quick pan to his coach. he will miss the first two pitches when they will cue another round of concerned faces and possibly a more complete flashback. this will then be followed by a mandatory 30 second pause on the player’s face before the final swing which by japanese law, he will still miss but learn a bigger lesson in the end.

by the way, if anyone’s thinking of the word hypocrite, you can seriously go fuck yourself. i’m complaining here, but when they watch, i’m more than happy to sit there with them and read my book. i can reserve comments for myself thank you very much.

by by the way, veronica mars really rocked something awesome at the end. you guys missed out and i can hardly wait to get my hands on the second season although it feels too good to be downloaded and watched on a laptop.

okay, we’ve finally finished packing our stores for wallaby. it hasn’t really occurred to me that we’re leaving in a couple of weeks. in my head, gcc has still just ended. looks like there really isn’t going to be a boring time for me in the army.

anyway, most of the company went out to help with a battalion exercise, leaving a midnight crew to finish the stores. for one small company, lightstrike really has an immense amont of stores that we need to ship over to wallaby. and we’re not even talking about the actual vehicles yet. luckily, our csm had ‘connections’, which means he is really good friends with brc csm, staff ivan, so we can pull their men over to help us. without their help, we’d probably still be at it now. i must admit, it was laborious and back-breaking work, especially carrying some of the heavier ops box. but for our efforts, our csm rewarded us with two days off. that really surprised me, i’ve really forgotten how generous our csm was since our new oc came in.

and the number one most guilty pleasure of the week is..

gossip girl!

haha. i admit i brought the dvds to camp but i will always maintain that it was my pc who started us watching it. it’s a damn addictive show, i give it that. i can see why my dad got so worked up about watching it every night for the past week. and i will also use that excuse that we really, really had nothing else better to do this week. all the time after office hours was completely our own, so jermaine, renny and i ended up watching a lot of tv. but really, there’s nothing to identify with the characters of the show. i think the draw is just predicting every plot twist that happens, and fill the office with comments on how dumb the people in the show really are. and anything about their lascivious lifestyles were fair game as well. you watch just one episode, then you have to watch the next one and the next because the plot flows so fluildy you can’t help it. so it goes on until some hero has to turn off the tv and say, ‘tmrw.’

season two anyone?

just a thought, i realise how lonely its going to be when all the old specs leave. for the record, we’ve really grown together as an inept bunch of specialists in the singapore arms forces and i will truly be sad to see them go when its time. if this weeks anything to go by, january will be the most un-exciting time i will have in the army. and i really don’t feel like bonding with the new specs. it feels like a waste of effort since i’m leaving in february anyways.
