we had our much feared exercise wolfpack this week. the finale to our lightstrike conversion course. and like all other summex exercises, you’re always a little scared before it begins. but thankfully, i’m officially a lighstrike HQ specialist and that makes all the difference. so i had a pretty smooth ride, relative to all the other poor souls in the fighting platoon. anyway, to begin with, exercise wolfpack was more technical and tactical than the standard infantry ’siong’. its basically just a test of everything that’s been done over the past couple of months. plus, now that we’re on vehicles, its not physically draining. the worst part of the whole exercise, without a shadow of a doubt, was the mosquitoes. i, for one, slept in the training shed and the damn bugs were already annoying me beyond the reach of sleep. so spare a thought for the suckers literally out there getting sucked up in the jungle. special mention to platoon 2 who lagered deep in the jungle at the mercy of a swarm of mozzies, especially the few who emerged the next day looking more like victims of smallpox than insects. i guess the only real consolation that we can take away is that there probably won’t be half as many mozzies in australia.
as for me, haha, its probably more exercise concussion than exercise wolfpack. first i concuss in the tonner, then in the training shed and then back in the lightstrike. and the csm even asked the other specs whether there’s something wrong with me. i don’t think i’ve ever slept so much outfield before, but if this is a sign of things to come then i see a very bright future for myself in lightstrike.
